Weekly Blog Post

January 19-23

I started off my weekend with volunteering at the Laton Lions Club with their first annual Crab Feed.  It honestly wasn't that bad, I enjoyed spending time with one of the other rodeo queen contestants.  I also have been working on my Leos Website most of the week in my English class. I mainly have been trying to come up with ways to direct the website to all audiences and add relevant information where it belongs. I had a meeting with Dr. Audet and we talked about setting deadlines and adding pictures to website.  He also gave me little tips and tricks to use on it to make it easier to read and draw attention to certain areas.  We also talked about certain things that the Life Project class could do at the end of the year to do volunteer work and also have fun while doing it.

Common Core Standards:

  • SL 2- Initiate multiple sources of information presented in diverse formats and media in order to make informed decisions and solve problems, evaluating the credibility and accuracy of each source and noting any discrepancies among the data.
I can tie this standard in with what I'm doing because of when I'm working on my website I have to use different forms of media to answer the questions that I think people may have while looking at the Leos Website.

Weekly Blog Post

January 12-16, 2015
First week back! This week we finally got to meet with the two professors that Dr. Audet has been talking about all of last semester. They were pretty interesting, I'm not going to lie the meeting was extremely boring. Other than the meeting I have basically been working on the website that Dr. Audet has helped me create for the Leos Club. I have to add everything on my own, which involves research so I don't post anything wrong. The website and Facebook page aren't ready yet but when they are I will be posting the link so you will be able to look at it.

English Standards:

  • RH 7-  Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information presented in diverse formats and media in order to address a question or solve a problem.
  • WHST 5-  Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on addressing what is most significant for a specific purpose and audience.
I can use these standards mainly form making the website for the Leos Club. I have to research all over the internet for relevant information, so that any questions someone might ask can just look on our website or Facebook page and find the answer to their question. The last standard explains what I'm doing. I'm planning, revising, editing, rewriting, and trying different approaches. I'm trying to make my website for a general audience, obviously talking about the Leos Club.

Update

I was just wanting to update you guys on my process on my project. Dr. Audet has helped a great deal by getting me a website that he is allowing me to personalize on my own to sort of help get the word out about the Laton Leos Club. I have been working as much as I can on my website, which honestly isn't every day, but I do try. I have been putting little facts about Laton, the community, the school, etc.. I am really enjoying working on the website because it is something of my own. We have also been working on a little video with Mr. Paul that kind of shows what we've been doing with the My Life Project. I have mainly been helping the guys film their stuff in shop and helping them with the safety sign for the skate park. I also had regular school work to do. For example I had to write a 5 paragraph essay for Spanish. Not fun at all!

Common Core Standards:

  • W 1   Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.
I can use this standard because I did write a five paragraph essay for AP Spanish. My argument was that it is not necessary to have both a high school diploma and a college degree. There are honestly many people that have dropped out of college that are very well off in life. Yes, I do think that it's good to go, but it's honestly not necessary at all in my opinion.

And yay! I finally got my 18th English Standard done!!!

Weekly Blog Post

Week of December 1- December 5

This week I have had a couple of meetings with Dr. Audet to discuss creating a webpage for our Leos Club. I am really happy that he was willing to spend time and money, even though he didn't have to. I really think that after break we are really going to start to get the ball rolling on getting the club really started. I also needed to do some more civics standards for Mrs. Cervantes, but they're so hard to tie into my project, so I just have been writing her essays that interest me. Of course they involve the standards though. I just got done researching and typing up an essay about the scope and limits of rights and obligations as demographic citizens, the relationships among them, and how they're secured. I basically wrote about how our rights are protected, how we obey them, and what the naturalization process is.

English Standards:
  • RI 2   Determine two or more central ideas of text and analyze their development over the course of the text, including how they interact and build on one another to provide a complex analysis; provide an objective summary of the text.
  • W 8   Gather relevant information from multiple authoritative print and digital sources, using advanced searches effectively; assess the strengths and limitations of each source in terms of the task, purpose, and audience; integrate information into the text selectively to maintain the flow of ideas, avoiding plagiarism and over reliance on any one source and following a standard format for citation including footnotes and end notes.
I can use these standards because when doing my essays for my civics standards I have to do research on multiple different sites. While doing my research I make sure to write the information in my own words and to post the link of the website that I used on my work cited page.

Vacation post!

Over Thanksgiving break I started my week off with going on a camping trip with my family and some family friends. We went up to Big Sur, if you've never been there then I highly suggest that you go! Its so amazing. There are beaches, mountains, and natural waterfalls. I always have the best time there. Sadly we had to come home. When I came home we had a basketball game the next day and Saturday. We aren't doing to hot in basketball this year, with only having seven players. Thanksgiving was honestly amazing. We started it off with eating early at my boyfriends sisters house, then went to my cousins house later. Yes, I ate both times! I love spending time with both of our families. They are honestly just so amazing to be around. So, my break wasn't very eventful in my opinion, but that's perfectly fine with me.
